Chrome Vs. Google

What a week so far! Computer issues, etc. have me straying from Firefox and using Chrome today. At first I didn't like the feel of Chrome, now I'm getting used to it, as Firefox is not getting along with my MacBook Pro (although it always has in the past). What browser do you support? If I get some time today, I plan on picking apart this article for a better explanation.

Extensive list of all Bat-Transportation can be seen here.

Excellent...

I have a lot of items printed for clients throughout the week, but I don't always get to see all of them. Yesterday I dropped off some menus at a local client's guitar/coffee shop and was pleasantly surprised to see an outdoor banner we did for him, proudly hung outside. My printer did an excellent job for such a large scale project. All of the detail and colors were in-tact as if you were looking at the design on your computer screen. If you ever need a banner for a business, parade, etc. please keep me in mind.

A sad day?

Steve Jobs resigned today. Say what you will, but I idolize the guy. Here's his latest statement:

"I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role. I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you."

And here's my favorite quote from him:

"The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it."

Last BBQ of the summer.

Next week school starts, which means we are back to the grind. Waking up early, homework, regular schedules, etc. So- tonight we celebrate because we deserve it. It's been a fun summer, but it's time to ship the kids to the grandparents and enjoy some good beer , BBQ and great friends.

Website trend: "Passion without Perspective"

This article hits the proverbial nail on the head:

'The worst thing about the Internet, in terms of entrepreneurship, is that there is such a low barrier for entry.  It gives you the opportunity to start a business without really thinking through your business model.

While it may be easy to set up a website, it is extremely difficult to set up a content-driven website that generates significant revenues. People with absolutely no understanding of business can set up shop online and then bleed money because they haven’t done their homework, don’t know the competitive landscape, have no idea of how to budget and do not understand the finances of an ongoing operation."

9 Ways Your Business Needs To Change To Become Social

1. The concept of an audience is outdated.
People are not out there with their hands in their laps listening intently as your company gives a speech, issues a press release or announces the new service you are excited about. They won’t wait for the 15-minute question and answer period at the end of that speech. They are commenting on your Facebook post on Saturday and looking for your answer to their tweet on Monday night. You may be able to start a conversation, but like real life conversations, you can’t be sure where it will end up.  Your only hope is to develop a community and then behave in a way that respects the members.  You’re going to live or die by that community.
2. Size (alone) does not matter.
Touting audience numbers is a holdover from the days when all businesses had to evaluate their advertising expenditures were magazine readership and Neilson T.V. viewership. The number of visitors, subscribers, likes and followers is not the most important fact.  Anyone can get 15,000 Twitter followers.  That’s why you see a Twitter handle with 300 followers that has a higher Klout score than one with twenty times that number.  Your hundred thousand Facebook “likes” is irrelevant if no one comments or clicks on your links because your posts won’t be shown in anyone’s feeds.  Even a million visitors isn’t really a big number if your bounce rate is 95%. Engagement is measurable and it’s far more important than the top line number.  The difference between the top line number and engagement is the essence of what it means to be social.

3. Empathy and caring trump strategy.
Strategy conjures up images of battle — you against the consumer. In the evolved, human form of marketing that is social media, empathy should inform the decisions you make. If you can empathize with the people you want to reach; if you can sense what they need, because you care about them, you’ll be better off than if you set out with the idea of making moves to force them into a position. How can you do that? They are talking to you and you are talking to them every day. You measure the results of the content you offer.  You listen. The studied, carefully crafted approach may have worked 15 years ago but it is devoid the feeling that is part of social interactions.

New Website

Finishing up/launching this site very soon. I designed it using Joomla 1.6 and find the navigation to be very user-friendly, making the site clean and straightforward. The photo viewer (Rokbox) worked out well for this project- before/after, etc. and of course the logo is the icing on the cake. Need a site designed?

Day 6

My family comes home tomorrow! I've learned that when left alone for awhile:
1) I will only eat meat, accompanied by some type of sauce.
2) Internet is more entertaining than television.
3) The dog owes me 5 bucks.
4) Being alone may only be fully enjoyable in small doses.

.CO?

This seems to be the new craze- domain names ending in ".co"
I realize that there are not many decent .com addresses available, and this may try to increase availability- so there are more options to choose from when deciding on a website. However Wikipedia states ".co is the country code top-level domain assigned to the Republic of Colombia". Does this mean that we're purchasing these from Columbia, or the domain companies are reselling them? Sounds fishy- somebody enlighten me...

Why Business Logos are So Integral to Success

"A logo is essential to the longevity of any business, no matter what market you are currently operating in.  A brand facilitated by a logo allows your company to stand out about above competitors whilst building a repeat user base and sometimes even a solid fan base, all things which will help your business not only survive, but potentially gain a massive market share. To show you some successful logo designs, we collected some incredible examples. Feel free to check them out, and get inspiration for your own business." Read the full article.

Congrats!

My beautiful wife had a bet going with her friends and family- that she couldn't grow her (usually short) hair out for 6 months. As of Monday, she officially won the bet and shaved it all off again! Congratulations and thank you for always keeping life...never-boring.
