Facebook Stock
At the beginning of the year I had plans to dabble in the stock market- specifically to start by buying Facebook stock. I bought books, etc, to get myself familiar with the process and had planned to open en Etrade account. Well, I procrastinated. Everyday design work took over and the stock market became less exciting. I still don't have an Etrade account, but it looks like I dodged a bullet and a hit to the pocketbook by avoiding the Facebook IPO debacle.
This article explains it well:

Playing favorites?
Having designed over 3,000 custom logos, I have to say that I do develop a handful of favorites. This is my most recent- great customer, great direction, excellent logo that has really been put to good use via Facebook, etc:

Apple wants to kill Netflix
It's true! Read this article.
"Based on what we’ve seen with Apple over the last several months, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the company is warming to the idea of streaming. And when that happens..."

This blog gets over double the traffic than my website:
I kind of wish it was the other way around, but happy to have all the blog readers!
MTV uses Joomla too!
For years I've wondered what is the best way/program to use to create a website. I settled into Joomla with the help of my web guru a while ago. My site, The Logo-Mat + all of the websites I've designed are all made in Joomla. I like it- some of the CSS editing can be kind of confusing, but the finished look is always better than say... a Wordpress site. I just learned from this post (read more) that MTV launched a Joomla site. This reinforces my interest in developing my Joomla skills- in spite of the fact that some of my logo clients claim their Facebook page is "their website" (sigh), but that's another story.

Maxx's Monday Motivation
Congratulations Maxx Cockrum! You have hereby defeated levels 1-8 of The New Super Mario Bros. and has overthrown Bowser- thus deeming you a Wii Wizard. Any grown-ups that have played this game know that this is no easy task. Maxx is five years old.

Good job
While designing hundreds of logos every year, I get to see a lot of start-ups and small business ideas. I often wonder how many of these fail (bad ideas) and how many succeed (good ideas). The ratio would be interesting, at least to me.
A recent project has come to fruition from one of my best, long-time customers. He's developed a company that repairs screens (iphones, ipads, etc.) via an online order/process. Based on the interface, thought put into the project, etc- I expect this to be a very successful entity and I'm happy to have had a part in the design work. Check out the site, and bookmark it in case you ever need screen repair to your Apple device, laptop, etc:

Net's new logo...
The Brooklyn Nets unveiled their new logos, which rapper and part-owner Jay-Z helped design.
Maybe he should stick to rapping - or did he retire... again?
